People Operations Manager
Job Description
We’re hiring a People Operations Manager to take ownership of the full employee lifecycle and build scalable people systems for a growing, distributed team. This is a dedicated, full-time role ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and is passionate about improving team experiences through structure, process, and proactive support.
You will oversee onboarding, payroll, benefits administration, compliance, performance support, and employee engagement. You’ll also partner closely with leadership and department heads to solve people-related challenges, while serving as a trusted operational partner to the Chief People Officer on special projects and internal initiatives.
Responsibilities
People Operations & Employee Lifecycle
- Manage and mentor an international-based People Ops Generalist (recruiting, onboarding, contractor communications).
- Own onboarding and offboarding workflows for employees and contractors.
- Oversee access provisioning, equipment tracking and recovery, reimbursements, and offboarding logistics.
- Draft and manage employment contracts, contractor agreements, NDAs, and compliance documentation.
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date inventory and tracking system for company-issued equipment.
Policy, Compliance & Documentation
- Create, update, and enforce internal people policies and handbooks.
- Track policy acknowledgment and team-wide compliance.
- Manage state registration and tax compliance related to employee location.
- Act as a people operations partner to managers for documentation, process development, and performance-related conversations.
Payroll, Benefits & Compensation
- Oversee payroll execution for:
- W-2 employees via Gusto
- Contractors via Gusto, Hubstaff, Wise, and Brex
- W-2 employees via Gusto
- Administer all employee benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, AD&D, 401(k), and equity options.
- Support benefit enrollments, education, vendor communication, and eligibility changes.
- Maintain Gusto HRIS data for hires, terminations, compensation changes, and bonuses.
- Calculate project-based consultant pay and manage sales commission tracking using tools such as Asana, HubSpot, and Harvest.
- Assist with compensation planning and maintaining pay bands across roles.
Culture, Engagement & Performance
- Run quarterly engagement surveys and analyze team sentiment trends.
- Recommend and implement initiatives to support culture, clarity, and retention.
- Help build and maintain performance management structures, documentation templates, and review cycles.
Systems, Process Ownership & Admin Support
- Build, refine, and document scalable People Ops processes for a remote-first, international team.
- Identify inefficiencies and recommend tools, automations, or improvements.
- Provide occasional administrative support to the Chief People Officer (e.g., research, internal documentation, coordination).
- Support internal operations projects as needed with a generalist mindset and high attention to detail.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in People Operations or Human Resources, preferably in a remote or international company.
- Proficiency with payroll, benefits administration, and HRIS platforms (especially Gusto).
- Detail-oriented with a track record of managing equipment, documentation, and compliance.
- Self-starter with the ability to build processes in undefined areas and thrive without step-by-step instructions.
- Strong communicator who can work cross-functionally and serve as a partner to leadership.
- Capable of balancing strategic thinking with operational execution and admin-level responsibilities.
