The hardest engineering problem in property management isn't AI. It's data.

Everyone in this industry is talking about AI right now. Agents that can lease units. Agents that can handle maintenance requests. Agents that can answer resident questions.

Cool. But nobody's talking about what happens when you point an agent at a property manager's financial data and ask it to do something useful.

I'll tell you what happens. It breaks.

Not because the AI is bad. Because the data is bad. Miscoded journal entries. Bank accounts that haven't been reconciled in months. Trust account balances that don't match what's actually in the bank. Owner statements generated from numbers nobody has verified since last quarter.

The AI doesn't know any of that. It just reads what's there and acts on it. Confidently. Quickly. Incorrectly.

This is the problem nobody in PM software wants to talk about. The system of record is only as good as what's inside it. And for the majority of property management companies, what's inside it is a mess. Not because operators are careless. Because the tools they've been given were never designed to enforce accuracy. They were designed to store whatever you put in.
