Context Is the Product: The Knowledge Layer Behind Agentic Accounting
Last post I talked about the data problem. This one is about the next evolution of how we work.
For seven years, our bookkeepers have been the reason this company works. They carry deep client knowledge that nobody else in the industry has. Client A wants owner distributions on the 10th. Client B runs a reserve floor of $2,500 on every property. Client C excludes a specific bank account from the trust reconciliation because of a side agreement the owner negotiated years ago.
That expertise is what our clients pay for. It's also what has made property management accounting work at all. Generic software doesn't know any of it. Neither does a generic AI agent. Until recently, the judgment had to live with the humans. That was the only way it could work.
But the tools caught up. And when you point an agent at a customer's books without that context, the agent is flying blind. It produces confident output that a bookkeeper then has to correct. That is not a good use of our bookkeepers' time, and it is not what agentic accounting should look like.
So we built a knowledge base MCP, integrated directly into our agentic tooling. One namespace per customer, treated as a living document. The agent reads the customer's namespace before it touches anything, so it knows the distribution day, the reserve floor, the side agreement. And here is the part I am most excited about. As our bookkeepers make judgment calls in the course of normal work, the agent writes those decisions back to that customer's namespace. Every update is version controlled, using the same permissioning hierarchy we already run our teams on. Nothing gets lost. Nothing is unaccountable. The document evolves the same way a senior bookkeeper's mental model of a client evolves, except now it's visible to the rest of the system.
This is the next evolution of what we've built together. Our bookkeepers are the authors of every rule the system knows. What changes is that their expertise stops being locked inside individual people and starts compounding across the whole system. Every judgment call makes every future run more accurate. Every client we onboard makes the whole book smarter.
The accuracy improvement has been real, and it is not because the models got smarter. It is because they finally have the context our team has always had. And that context keeps compounding.
